The farewell message on the web site reads:

“We checked out different widespread recreation piracy websites and found they had been all stuffed with dozens of monitoring scripts, infuriating adverts (generally viruses) and primarily existed for the only real goal of creating wealth.

“In response, we created an internet site with none of these issues and enhancements; it was straightforward to obtain information, a clear design, and lifeless hyperlinks grew to become a factor of the previous with the voting system the place you may vote to have video games re-uploaded mechanically. Best of all, virtually every part was automated so that you didn’t must depend on some individual at their laptop to add information!

Which brings us to…

“Shutting Down

“Rival sites started to target us by making threats and claiming they have reported us to anti-piracy corporations. We also want to move on with our lives and enjoy other things without the constant fear of legal action breathing down our necks.”

Although GOD didn’t disclose the names of the rival websites because of which they determined to name it quits, they did get again at a few of the different recreation piracy web sites by publishing an investigative report (PDF file) that means players which piracy websites are secure and which of them aren’t.

“The purpose of this document is to summarize information found online that reveals the identity of the individuals that operate the gaming piracy websites ‘igg-games.com’ (http://igg-games.com/) and ‘gamestorrent.co’ (http://gamestorrent.co/) which profit from the distribution of illegal copies of video games via advertisements (pop-up ads, etc). At the time of publication, they are ranked 1,305 and 5,958 globally by Alexa.com,” the report notes.

Interestingly, the positioning operators of GOD determined to publish the supply code of all their websites on GitHub in order that its legacy lives on.
